Of all the film we watched last week, the one that caught my attention the most was Meshes of the Afternoon. One of the aspects of the film that stood out to me the most was the background music. This is highly unusual because, since I am musically challenged, I do not usually pay a ton of attention to the music in the films. In this movie, however, I felt that the music added a whole other element. The humming and beats emphasized the eerie atmosphere of the whole situation. The silence was used strategically as well to build suspense. I felt as if these sounds could very well have appeared in one of my eerie nightmares. I was also fascinated by the mirror-faced cloaked figure and its purpose in the film. Was she trying to catch up to it to see herself? And why did it seem that she could never quite catch up? There were also a lot of shots of just feet throughout the film and they usually seemed to be running somewhere or frantically bustling about and I was not sure if the feet were any sort of prominent symbol in the film. I wish I had not missed the discussions as I would have really enjoyed hearing other people’s thoughts about the film.
