meshing meshes

I was most affected by meshes of the afternoon after thursday night's screening simply because of its prominent use of symbols. The reaccuring telephone and knife kept me paying attention because I knew they had to do with what this woman was going through.

I am sad that I apparently missed such a discussion on deflowering and virginity, but I do believe I can see this concept in the film. I think it combines the idea of losing virginity with the dream-like sequence to show the woman's different ideas on how the sexual scenario could play out. Finally, each of these dream characters meets in the end as they all sit around the table and confront the issue- sex, which could be represented by the knife. Here the man comes into play as he hangs up the telephone that has been of the hook showing that the deed has been done and it has been his doing. I think the final death of the woman in the end shows her fears and doubts about this action and how she thinks it could ultimately end badly.

I found that this film explored the inner workings of the psyche as it attempted to tackle an issue and see the possible outcomes. I think the filmmaker had the possible outcomes "meet up" in the end to show and determine which one would win out.
