I have to say I really enjoyed the films from Thursday, particularly the Maya Deren ones. I found the whole concept of dream logic in "Meshes in the Afternoon" an intruiging concept, despite the fact it was rather confusing. I loved the way Deren portrayed this odd out of body experience, and then turned it into some twisted horror movie where this frantic dream became a reality. I feel as if she created the aura of a dream very well with many tilted angles, mysterious wind, and ominous everyday figures such as the phone and the knife.
I also found the discussion about the main character being "deflowered" interesting, and rather relevant. Perhaps it was because I never considered it previously myself, but I feel as if it makes perfect sense. The mirror-faced figure represents how scary it is for her to even try to look herself in the face anymore, and the way everyday life appears as scary and imposing demonstrates how she cant escape what happened to her, and eventually dies. Its quite possible this was not Deren's intention at all, but I feel as if this reading fits the film well regardless.
