The films last week were all very interesting, save for the last one. I especially enjoyed all 3 films by Maya Deren. Meshes of the Afternoon and At Land were both very entertaining to watch and were interesting to see how she manipulated time and space in the dream worlds. The out of body experiences in Meshes of the Afternoon were incredibly entertaining and forced one to examine Maya Deren's views on self reflection and what is possible in the sleeping world. At Land was an interesting film that, while it didn't make much sense, I'm sure had some deeper meaning that I am just unable to grasp at the moment. I also enjoyed watching the simplistic beauty of the dancer in the last film by Deren.
Anger's first film, Fireworks, was also very interesting to watch. The scenes of brutality in this film were very gruesome and indeed nauseating. These scenes force the viewer to examine the film and closely review one's own beliefs. Unfortunately, his last film was terribly boring. It was a major letdown and ended the night on a low note.
