A Reflection

"The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" provides a provocative glimpse into the inner workings of the German psyche for the interwar period between World War I and World War II. However, I would not have been aware that the director intended for the film to convey a message to the German audience of the dangers of authority and tyranny. Even without Kracauer's article, "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" exceeded my expectations and awakened my inner movie self to another type of cinema that I had not previously been exposed to. Needless to say, "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" is not a film easy to forget.
