The cabinet of Dr. Caligari was brilliant…I absolutely LOVED all the elements that composed this brilliant 90 minute film. From the introduction of acts to the depiction of its inspiring plot. I love reading stories that have this type of twist at the end of them so I really enjoyed seeing a visual interpretation. The story reminded me of stories by one of my favorite authors, Stanley Ellin. It also reminded me of Tim Burton and his film Sweeney Todd…which I watched again to find similarities between the two. Many of the scenes in The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari were distorted in a similar manner as those in the film Sweeney Todd…the coloring was also very similar to that featured in the Tim Burton film.
Overall this film was superb, however I disliked the score because I felt it was out of place; it was too modern for me. I watched it again with a more “ancient score” that seemed to enhance my viewing experience because it made it seem more authentic. The coloring in the other one I saw was also nicer because it was sepia; which I found simplistic and more befitting. EVERYONE SHOULD SEE THIS MOVIE ATLEAST ONCE IN THEIR LIVES!!!
